The Marsh Berkeley to Present Joshua Walters’ Madhouse Rhythm

The Marsh Berkeley is set to present Joshua Walters’ autobiographical collage Madhouse Rhythm, July 28-August 25.

Walters was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in 2001 while he was still in high school. Since then he has become an acclaimed comedian, poet, mental health educator, and performing artist. In Madhouse Rhythm he uses a variety of styles, including hip hop theater, spoken word, and beatbox, to help infuse his story of one man’s experience with madness with humor, unpredictable antics, and intimate reflection.

Walters has appeared on radio and television stations ranging from ABC in San Francisco to Radio X in Frankfurt, Germany and has been a guest on KGO Radio with Gil Gross. During the last two years, he has performed at theaters and universities throughout North America, Europe, and the Middle East. An original member of the Bay Area beatbox collective The Vowel Movement, Walters has performed on MTV2, PBS, and KQED. In 2002, he co-founded the Depression Bipolar Support AllianceYoung Adults Chapter in San Francisco, one of the few support groups specifically for mentally ill young adults in the country.
