The Curran Theatre will present the North American premiere of a multicultural re-interpretation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, May 6-June 1. Directed by Tim Supple, this production is the culmination of a project that began in autumn 2004 when the British Council in India and Sri Lanka commissioned him to create and direct a new touring theater production.

The cast for A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a multi-cultural troupe of 23 performers from a hugely diverse range of locations and backgrounds. Performed in English, this production also incorporates Tamil, Malayalam, Sinhalese, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, and some Sanskrit. Supple’s re-interpretation combines sensuous choreography, contemporary scenic elements, and bold music with this comedic tale of romance and magic to make a production moving to an urban beat that resonates for hip, young audiences.

The creative team will include set and costume designs by Sumant Jayakrishnan, lighting design by Zuleikha Chaudhari, and music direction by Devissaro.
