Judy Kaye, Rita Moreno, Anna Deavere Smith Among SFBATCC Nominees

The San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle (SFBATCC) have announced their nominees for outstanding achievement for 2011. The awards will be presented on April 2 at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre. Marga Gomez will host the awards.


A total of 36 Drama Awards and 38 Musical Awards will be presented in three categories: Theatres with 99 seats or less; 100-300 seats; and Over 300 seats. There is also an award for touring productions.


Among the many productions that have been recognized are Assassins, Billy Elliot, Chicago, Clybourne Park, Driving Miss Daisy, Fela!, The Homecoming, How to Write a New Book for the Bible, Into the Clear Blue Sky, Geezer, Master Harold and the Boys, Metamorphosis, Next to Normal, Pelleas & Melisande, Songs of the Dragon Flying to Heaven, Race, Rock of Ages, Spring Awakening, Smokey Joe’s Café, Tales of the City, and The Wild Bride.


Nominated performers include Rene Augesen, Mary Birdsong, Anna Bullard, Joe Cassidy, Mike Daisey, Charles Dean, Diane Findlay, Anthony Fusco, Linda Gehringer, Geoff Hoyle, Zainab Jah, Judy Kaye, Andrew Polk, Rita Moreno, Richard Poe, Anna Deavere Smith, and Betsy Wolfe.
