Camp David begins its run tonight at the Old Globe Theatre.

It’s the late 1970s, and turmoil in the Middle East is at a breaking point. In this decade of tumultuous change, three men and one woman gather in hopes of bringing about a peace that seems unattainable. Throughout 13 historic days in 1978, Israeli Prime Minister Menacham Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat meet in a final effort to forge an agreement to save their countries from endless conflict and global unrest. With President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, looking on, the historical achievement of the century gets under way. Forty years later, with issues in the Middle East as fraught as ever, the message of hope and cooperation brought about by three radically different men coming together resonates through time.

Molly Smith helms this production of Pulitzer Prize winner Lawrence Wright’s play, which features Ned Eisenberg as Menachem Begin, Hallie Foote as Rosalynn Carter, Khaled Nabawy as Anwar Sadat, Richard Thomas as Jimmy Carter, and Bryan Banville and Jon Maxwell as Marines.

The creative team includes Walt Spangler (set design), Paul Tazewell (costume design), Pat Collins (lighting design), David Van Tieghem (original music and sound design), Jeff Sugg (projection design), and Peter Van Dyke (stage manager).

Performances will run through June 19.
