October Sky, a new musical by Marsha Norman, Aaron Thielen, and Michael Mahler, will have its West Coast premiere at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. The show will run from September 10-October 23 under the direction of Rachel Rockwell.

Inspired by the 1999 film from Universal Pictures and the book Rocket Boys by Homer H. Hickam Jr., the musical tells the story of a West Virginia high school student who enters a rocketry competition against the wishes of his domineering, practical-minded dad. With the help of his friends and the local community, he just might light up the night. The musical features a book by Norman and Thielen and a score by Mahler.

Rockwell will also serve as choreographer for the production, which was first produced in 2015 at the Marriott Theatre. The cast and creative tea, for the production will be announced in the coming months.
