Kimiko Glenn, Tom Hewitt, Paul Nolan to Star in Flaming Lips’ Musical Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

Stage veterans Kimiko Glenn, Tom Hewitt, and Paul Nolan will star in the upcoming La Jolla Playhouse production of Des McAnuff and The Flaming Lips’ Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, set to run November 6-December 16 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.

Featuring songs from the albums Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, The Soft Bulletin, and At War with the Mystics and a story by Flaming Lips member Wayne Coyne and director McAnuff, the musical follows Yoshimi, a young Japanese artist facing the battle for her life in a fantastical robot world.

Glenn will play the title role, with Hewitt as Dr. Peterson, Nolan as Ben, Pearl Sun as Mrs. Yasukawa, Nik Walker as Booker, John Haggerty as Mr. Yasukawa, and Mary Antonini, Laurin Padolina, Jaz Sealy, Jason Sermonia, Julius Sermonia, Michael Balderrama, Emmanuel Brown, Ian Paget, Vasthy Mompoint, Catherine Ricafort, Vanden Thurgood, and Jesse Wildman, Richard Bulda, LaMae Caparas, Jonny Wexler, Chelsea Diggs-Smith, Christopher Cortex, Katie McGehee, and Jack Mikesell.

The creative team includes Ron Melrose (musical supervisor), Bradley Rapier (choreography), Robert Brill (scenic design), Paul Tazewell (costume design), Michael Walton (lighting design), Steve Canyon Kennedy (sound design), Sean Nieuwenhuis (projection design), Basil Twist (puppet design), Steve Rankin (fight director), and Gabriel Greene (dramaturg).
