La Jolla Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for its upcoming world premiere production of Kingdom City, a new comedy written by Sheri Wilner and directed by Jackson Gay.

Kingdom City follows displaced New York director Miriam who finds herself in Kingdom City, Missouri, and reluctantly agrees to direct a high school production of The Crucible. The 20th Century classic eventually inspires a 21st Century showdown.

The cast features real-life husband-and-wife team Kate Blumberg (The Syringa Tree) and Todd Weeks (The Full Monty) as onstage partners Miriam and Daniel. The cast also includes Cristina Gerla as Katie, Ian Littleworth (The Lonely Boy’s Guide to Survival (and Werewolves)) as Luke, Austyn Myers (Lost in Yonkers) as Matt, and Katie Sapper (bare: a pop opera) as Crystal.

The creative team for Kingdom City includes scenic design by Robert Brill, costume design by David Reynoso, lighting design by Paul Whitaker, sound design by Nick Drashner, and dramaturgy by Gabriel Greene.

Performances will run from September 4-October 5, with an official September 12 opening.
