Keith Carradine, Hunter Foster, Jarrod Emick Set for La Jolla Playhouse’s Hands on a Hardbody

La Jolla Playhouse has announced casting for its upcoming world premiere production of Doug Wright’s Hands on a Hardbody, to run April 27-June 17 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. Neil Pepe will direct, and musical staging will be by Benjamin Millepied.

With a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright, lyrics by Amanda Green, and music by Trey Anastasio and Amanda Green, Hands on a Hardbody tells the story of ten economically-strapped strangers who embark on a journey that puts their hearts, minds, and bodies to the test when an auto dealership in Longview, TX launches an endurance contest.

The cast will feature Keith Carradine (JD Drew), Allison Case (Kelli Mangrum), Jarrod Emick (Mike Ferris), Hunter Foster (Benny Perkins), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Greg Wilhote), David Larsen (Chris Alvaro), Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone (Heather Stovall), Mary Gordon Murray (Virginia Drew), Connie Ray (Cindy Barnes), Jon Rua (Jesus Pena), Keala Settle (Norma Valverde), Dale Soules (Janis Curtis), Jacob Ming Trent (Ronald McGowan), Scott Wakefield (Frank Nugent), and William Youmans (Don Curtis/Dr. Stokes).

The design team will include Zachary Dietz (music direction), Christine Jones (set design), Susan Hilferty (costume design); Kevin Adams (lighting design), and Steve Canyon Kennedy (sound design).
