Rob Ashford, Christopher Ashley, Jo Bonney, Arthur Kopit, Brendan Milburn, et al. Set for La Jolla Playhouse Season

The La Jolla Playhouse has announced its complete 2011-2012 season.

Artistic Director Christopher Ashley will helm the world premiere of Arthur Kopit and Anton Dudley’s A Dram of Drumchhicit, about an American entrepreneur who thinks he has found the perfect Scottish island on which to build his new golf course. (May 17-June 12).

Up next is a version of Henrik Ibsen’s Peer Gynt, adapted and directed by David Schweizer and featuring just five performers playing 40 characters (June 28-July 24), to be followed by the musical Sleeping Beauty Wakes, feature a book by Rachel Sheinkin, music by Brendan Milburn, lyrics by Valerie Vigoda, and directed by Rebecca Taichman (July 19 – August 21).

The season continues with the world premiere of Milk Like Sugar, by Kirsten Greenidge, which concerns16-year-old Annie, who enters into a pregnancy pact with two of her high school friends.(August 30-September 25).

Up next is the world-premiere musical Finding Neverland, with a book by Allan Knee, music by Scott Frankel, lyrics by Michael Korie, directed and choreographed by Rob Ashford (November 8 – December 11) and Culture Clash’s newest play American Night: The Ballad of Juan José, to be directed by Jo Bonney (January 27-Feburary 26).

In addition, Eveoke Dance Theatre has been named as La Jolla’s Resident Theatre Company for the season.
