San Diego's Diversionary Theatre will kick off its 2014 season with a West Coast premiere of Tom Donaghy's Boys & Girls, directed by Shana Wride.

The play follows Bev and Shelly, a lesbian couple who have a five-year-old son and feel that he needs a father figure. They turn to their best friend Reed to fill that parental void, though he must decide between taking on this new responsibility or continuing an unhealthy entanglement with his emotionally overwrought ex-boyfriend Jason.
Boys & Girls stars Faeren Adams (Shelly), Chrissy Burns (Bev), Anthony Methvin (Reed), and Andrew Oswald (Jason). "Audiences can look forward to a new dialogue in LGBT theatre," says director Shana Wride. "This play addresses the very human transition of growing up and takes for granted that we now have a generation of gay and lesbian people who get to struggle with marriage, children and life out in the open and it's about damn time."

Performances are scheduled to begin February 20 in advance of a March 1 opening and will run through March 23.
