Sam Gold, Kristen Greenidge, Lois Markle Among the Noel Craig Award Winners

The winners of the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle’s 2011 Craig Noel Awards have been announced. The prizes were presented in a ceremony held on Monday, February 6 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.

Among the most honored productions is Tracy Letts’ August: Osage County, seen at The Old Globe. The show has received the award for Outstanding Dramatic Production as well as one for Outstanding Ensemble. In addition, Sam Gold has won the award for Outstanding Direction of a Play and Lois Markle has received the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Play, Actress category, along with Rosina Reynolds, who has won for her work in Cygnet Theatre’s The Glass Menagerie. In addition, The Old Globe received a trio of awards for Jane Austen’s Emma, which has been named Outstanding Resident Musical.

Similarly honored has been ion theatre, which earned three awards for its production of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, including one Outstanding Work at a Small Theater, and an additional pair of awards for Gypsy: A Musical Fable, including one for actress Linda Libby. Another musical, Cabaret at the Cygnet, has received three awards, including one for director Sean Murray.

Among the other Craig Award winners are Kristen Greenidge, whose Milk Like Sugar has won the Outstanding New Play Award, and La Jolla Playhouse, which earned the Outstanding Touring Production award for the Broadway-bound Jesus Christ Superstar and the Outstanding Special Event Award for Susurrus.
