Tony Award winner Rob Ashford will direct and choreograph the La Jolla Playhouse production of the new musical Finding Neverland, with a, book by Allan Knee, music by Scott Frankel, and lyrics by Michael Korie, as part of the Playhouse’s 2011-2012 season.

In Finding Neverland — adapted by Knee from his play, The Man Who Was Peter Pan — the pressure is on for Scottish playwright J.M. Barrie – his last play was an abysmal failure and his career is threatened by crippling writers block. With his deadline fast approaching and an impertinent producer hounding him, a chance meeting in a London park with a woman and her spirited young boys provides just the inspiration he needs.

Frankel and Korie are best known for wort together on Grey Gardens. Ashford won the Tony for Best Choreography for Thoroughly Modern Millie and his many stage credits include Promises, Promises, Parade, Cry-Baby, Curtains, and A Streetcar Named Desire.
