Sister Act is running now through September 4 at Theatre by the Sea in Rhode Island. Based on the 1992 film, the Tony-nominated musical is written by multi-Emmy Award winners Cheri and Bill Steinkellner (Cheers), with additional book material by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane, music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Glenn Slater.

Sister Act is described as follows: "When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in one place the cops are sure she won't be a found: a convent. Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and the uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique talents to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church, but in doing so blows her cover. Soon it is nun-on-the-run time but she finds salvation in the heavenly power of her newly found sisterhood."

Broadway veterans Jeannette Bayardelle (The Color Purple) and Ellen Harvey (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) lead the cast as Deloris Van Cartier and Mother Superior, respectively.
