WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Pittsburgh Public Theater begins its 31st season by presenting the American premiere of Sir Alan Ayckbourn's RolePlay. Ted Pappas directs. On an evening in March, in a sleek London apartment, Justin Lazenby's life is about to come unraveled -- and the consequences will be hilarious. He and his fiancée Julie-Ann are bringing their respective parents together for the first time in order to announce their engagement. The food is ordered, the places are set, but nothing could prepare them for an unexpected visitor: Paige Petite, an ex-dancer (of the exotic variety) who quite literally falls into their lives. Seeking refuge from her overbearing boyfriend who lives upstairs, Paige's presence will be difficult to explain. Add Julie-Ann's conservative, provincial parents and Justin's five-martini mother, stir in the hulking former boxer guarding Paige, and you've got one dinner party that is not going to go according to Emily Post. Additional Saturday matinees at 2 p.m. on October 8, 15 and 22.; Thursday matinee at 2 p.m. on October 22; The Tuesday, October 18 performance begins at 7 p.m.; No public performance on Wednesday, October 5.
