Pittsburgh Public Theater to Present Sophocles’ Electra

Pittsburgh Public Theater will launch its 37th season with a production of Sophocles’ Electra, adapted by Frank McGuiness, to be presented September 29-October 30. Ted Pappas will direct the production.


As the play begins, Orestes secretly returns to the palace of Mycenae. Years before he had been sent into hiding after the murder of his father, and despite the passage of time, Orestes’ sister Electra can’t get over their father’s death.

The cast will include Michael Simpson, David J.M. Bielewicz, Edward James Hyland, Lisa Harrow, David Whalen, Catherine Eaton, Catherine Gowl, Glynis Bell, Shinnerrie Jackson, and Amy Landis.

The design team includes scenic designer James Noone, costume designer Gabriel Berry, lighting designer Kirk Bookman, and sound designer Zach Moore.
