About This Venue
The People's Light & Theatre Company is a non-profit, professional theatre. It was founded in 1973 by a group of young artists who committed themselves to two important concepts which remain central to our curtent mission and programming -- to work and live in, what was then, rural Pennsylvania rather than in an urban setting, and to take an active role in the life of their community. Those concepts manifest themselves in a full-time resident company of actors and other theatre artists, significant community collaboration and a nationally recognized arts education program, Project Discovery, which serves 40,000 young people each year, roughly half of their audience. The ten-acre site includes two black box theatres with 375 seats and 180 seats and an outdoor 800-seat amphitheatre. During their history they have produced 273 plays, both classic and contemporary, of which 36 were world premieres. They serve 100,000 people per year, which has earned them the Philadelphia Inquirer endorsement as "1995-96 Company of the Year for Outstanding Productions".
