Full Cast, Creative Team Set for Walnut Street's Hairspray

Full cast and creative team have been announced for the Walnut Street Theatre's production of the musical Hairspray, to run November 4-January 4. The production, which will open officially on November 12, will be directed by Charles Abbott with choreography by Mary Jane Houdina.

Based on the film by John Waters, the show has a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. It tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, an overweight Boston teenager in Baltimore, 1962, who achieves her dream of dancing on a local television show.

The cast will feature Amy Toporek (Tracy), Michael Walker (Edna), Josh Young (Link), Ben Dibble (Corny), Liz Kimball (Penny), Denise Whelan (Velma), Kate Fahrner (Amber), Neil Totton (Seaweed), Dominque Patton (Little Inez), Peter Schmitz (Wilbur), and Joliet Harris (Motormouth Maybelle).

The production will also feature Sean Bell, Kennen Butler, Nikki Curmaci, Brian Golub, Danielle Herbert, Joe Jackson, Regan Kays, John-Charles Kelly, Marisa Kennedy, Kalia Lynne, Stanley Martin, Devin L. Roberts, Kerri Rose, Connie Shafer, Crystal Sha'nae, Alex Michael Stoll, and Beth Wheeler.

The creative team includes Douglass G. Lutz (music direction), Robert Andrew Kovatch (sets), Colleen Grady (costumes), Paul Black (lighting), and Ryk Lewis (sound).
