WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
People's Light & Theatre Company presents Splittin' the Raft, by Scott Kaiser. Mark Twain's ground breaking novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn comes to life onstage in this East Coast premiere. In this evocative retelling of the beloved classic, four actors and one musician tell of Huck Finn's struggle with his conscience -- should he damn his immortal soul by becoming an accomplice to his friend Jim the slave as he struggles on a flight towards freedom? Traditional spirituals and the eloquent speeches of ex-slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass are juxtaposed with this story to create a galvanizing theatrical experience. Special events and pre- and post- show activities will be planned to complement this performance. This production replaces the previously announced Walk Together, Children: The Story of the Underground Railroad.
