In Michael Archangel, lust and anger, loyalty and hostility all collide as two blocs of the Russian American mafia struggle for power with results both comic and tragic. After the death of the patriarch of one mob faction, his widow must decide whether to remain the head of her family or to cede power to her dead husband's rival, Uncle Porfiry, by marrying him. Connecting all members of the family is Michael, an American teacher and idealist who engages with nearly everyone without committing to anything. Tension rises as the players in this stratagem compete for survival until the final shocking moments.
