Walnut Street Theatre looks into family life through the eyes of one of America's greatest living playwrights as it brings to life Neil Simon's classic comedy Broadway Bound.
Set in 1949, after Eugene Morris Jerome has come home from the war, Broadway Bound deals with the everyday issues of the chaotic Jerome household now that Eugene and his older brother Stanley are working full-time and living with their parents. Stanley one day recruits Eugene to assist in writing a comedy sketch for a popular CBS Radio broadcast. With the boys working on their big break into show business, this smart, funny, and touching story shifts its focus from Eugene and makes his mother Kate the center of the story. Kate, always the rock of her family, now must deal with marital issues, her impending empty nest, her father moving into the house, and the comical chaos that is about to erupt over the dirty laundry her boys unintentionally air to all of New York City.
Frank Ferrante returns to direct Broadway Bound after receiving critical acclaim for his productions of Brighton Beach Memoirs and Biloxi Blues, the other two parts of Simon's semi-autobiographical trilogy. Jesse Bernstein recreates the role of Eugene, after portraying him in the previous two productions.
