Johanna Day will play Annie Wilkes, the number one fan of Daniel Gerroll's Paul Sheldon in the world premiere of Misery, adapted from the best-selling Stephen King Novel. Will Frears will direct this developmental production at Bucks County Playhouse, November 24-December 8.
Written by two-time Academy Award-winner William Goldman (who also wrote the screenplay for the popular film adaptation of Misery), the play tells the story of novelist Paul Sheldon who is saved from the scene of a car accident by his self-professed "number one fan," and then held hostage once she discovers that he has killed off her favorite character.
The cast will also feature James DeMarse as Buster.
Set design for Misery is by David Korins, costume design is by Ann Roth, lighting design is by David Weiner and sound design is by Darron West. The production will feature original music by Michael Freidman, special effects by Gregory Meeh and fight direction by Rick Sordelet.
Day won a Tony for Proof, and recently finished a run in Good People for the Huntington Theatre Company. Gerroll's Broadway credits include Enchanted April, High Society, The Homecoming, and Plenty.
