People’s Light & Theatre to Present Special Events For The Persians

People’s Light & Theatre has announced several special events which will accompany its run of The Persians, September 24-October 19. Ellen McLaughlin’s adaptation of Aeschylus’ drama is directed by Jade King Carroll.

The theater will host a “College Night”, October 2, with a discounted student ticket price of $15.00 and a special talkback with the artists following the performance. Rosaria Munson of the Swarthmore College Classics Department will join the run with “The Persians & History: How the Play Frames History, How History Frames the Play”, October 5, to discuss the cultural and historical context in which Aeschylus wrote this play.

James Pyne, Director of Design, and Marla Jurglanis, Resident Costume Designer, will speak about conceptualizing the design of this production in “Design: Conceptualizing The Persians”, October 12. Finally, “Adaptation: Contemporary Embodiment of the Classics”, October 19, will be a discussion with Lou Lippa, People’s Light Playwright-in-Residence, and Bob Hedley, Head of Playwriting in the Theatre Department at Temple University. Charles Brastow will moderate.
