Lantern Theater Company Announces 2011-2012 Season

Lantern Theater Company has announced its 2011-2012 season, which will kick off with the Philadelphia premiere of David Ives’ New Jerusalem, The Interrogation of Baruch de Spinoza at Talmud Torah Congregation: Amsterdam, July 27, 1656, October 6 – 30. The cast will include Sam Henderson, David Bardeen, David Blatt, Jake Blouch, Seth Reichgott, and Kittson O’Neill.

The Lantern plans to celebrate the holiday season with Noël Coward’s Private Lives, December 8 – 31, featuring Geneviève Perrier, Ben Dibble, Leonard C. Haas, Kristin O’Rourke, and Jessica Bedford.

2012 will bring Romeo and Juliet, March 1 – April 1, Shakespeare’s beloved tragedy of star-crossed lovers and a city at war. The cast will include Sean Lally, Nicole Erb, Jake Blouch, Charlie DelMarcelle, Leonard C. Haas, Kevin Meehan, Kristin O’Rourke, Ceal Phelan, and Frank X.

The season is to conclude with The Island, May 17 – June 10, a funny drama by Tony Award-winners Athol Fugard, John Kani, and Winston Ntshona. The cast will feature Philadelphia actor Frank X.

The season’s special events will include the Fall Philosophy Festival: Theater and the Age of Reason, October 10-23, a festival centered around New Jerusalem which will explore the Jewish experience in Europe and Spinoza’s lasting influence on art, literature, and philosophy; Anthony Lawton’s adaptation of The Great Divorce, February 7 – 12; and Scholars: In Conversation – Swords, Sex & Surprises in Shakespeare’s Verona, March 12- 26, to be presented in conjunction with Romeo and Juliet.
