Kira Obolensky’s Cabinet of Wonders to Premiere at Gas & Electric Arts

Playwright Kira Obolensky (Lobster Alice) and visual artist Irve Dell’s Cabinet of Wonders, An Impossible History will have its world premiere at Underground Arts at the Wolf Building September 29 – October 24. The piece will be produced by Gas & Electric Arts, a four-year old physical theater company which commissioned the work.

In “Cabinet,” a brother and sister – offspring of a family of immigrants, revolutionaries and entertainers – live on the edge of eviction, and as they debate their strategies for survival, they argue over what to do with the plethora of family possessions that are stashed inside ancestral cabinets. With impending homelessness and with no destination or relatives in sight, they can only take away what they can carry.

The production will be performed by Catharine K. Slusar and Ross Beschler, under the direction of Lisa Jo Epstein. Dell has been commissioned for the cabinet and object creations. Other members of the creative team include Tim Harbeson (soundscape), James Clotfelter (lighting design) and Rosemarie McKelvey (costume design).
