Judith Jamison, artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, will host The Marian Anderson Award Gala, to be held at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, May 10 at 8:30pm.

As previously reported, stage and screen star Mia Farrow is the recipient of the 2011 Marian Anderson Award, which honors artists whose leadership on behalf of a humanitarian cause(s) or issue benefits society.

Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, and long-time friend of Mia Farrow, Carly Simon, will present a special tribute performance.

The gala concert, produced in partnership with The Philadelphia Orchestra, will also feature soprano Angela Brown, The Keystone Boychoir and Pennsylvania Girlchoir, and this year’s Best New Artist Grammy winner, Esperanza Spalding.

Farrow’s stage credits include Romantic Comedy on Broadway and The Exonerated and Fran’s Bed Off-Broadway. Her film and television credits include Peyton Place, Rosemary’s Baby, The Purple Rose of Cairo, New York Stories, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Reckless. In addition to her work as a performer, Farrow is an advocate for human rights. Her primary focus has been on conflict-affected regions in sub-Saharan Africa.
