Charles Abbott and Citizens Bank to Be Honored at Walnut Street Theatre Gala

Barrymore Award winner Charles Abbott and Citizens Bank will both receive the 2010 Edwin Forrest Award at the Walnut Street Theatre’s A Few of My Favorite Things gala, to be held on May 14 at the Walnut Street Theatre. The event will celebrate the theater’s 201st anniversary and raise funds for the company’s ongoing work.

The evening will also feature a concert in which Philadelphia theater luminaries will perform their personal favorite Broadway numbers and share behind-the-scenes stories. Among the artists scheduled to appear are Mary Martello, Jennie Eisenhower, Michael Philip O’Brien, Ben Dibble, Joilet Harris, and Fran Prisco. Additional performers will be announced at a later date.

The Edwin Forrest Award was created in 1990 in honor of the leading American Actor of the nineteenth century, a Philadelphia native who made his debut at the Walnut in 1820 and is presented to honor members of the business community and the artistic community.

Abbott has served in many different capacities for 28 productions at the theater and has won two Barrymore Awards for his work there, including his direction of 42nd Street) and his lead performance in Cabaret.Citizens Bank has been a long-time supporter of the theater’s activities, sponsoring one production each season since 1997.

The evening will also feature a VIP after party to be held in the Conrady Lobby of Thomas Jefferson University’s Dorrance H. Hamilton Builidng.
