Bristol Riverside Theatre Announces 2008 Summer Season

Bristol Riverside Theatre has announced its 2008 summer programming with Music of Broadway and Beyond, which features the Summer Musicale Series, the 3rd Annual Jazz Weekend, and Theatre Arts Center Children’s Theatre.

The season will open with This is the Moment (June 12-22), which features an all-male cast performing music from Jekyll and Hyde, Oklahoma, Man of La Mancha, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Misérables, and many more classic Broadway shows. Come Rain or Come Shine (July 10-20) brings new life to the 1930s and 40s with an evening of classic songs from the likes of Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Cole Porter.

The 3rd Annual Jazz Weekend will bring a short break from musical theater with jazz performances from Warren Oree & The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble (June 27), the Eric Mintel Quartet (June 28), and the Joshua Richman Trio (June 29). Broadway Baby (August 7-17) will follow with a tribute to the leading ladies of the Broadway stage including music from shows such as Gypsy, Mame,, Hello Dolly!, and Applause.

To keep the the kids entertained, Theatre Arts Center Children’s Theatre has a new string of professionally staged productions for youth, by youth. This season will include
Disney’s Mulan Junior (July 5), Rugrats (July 12), Bridge to Tarabithia (July 19), That’s What Kids Do (July 26), Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. (August 2), Disney’s The Aristocats (August 9), and Bound for Broadway (August 16).
