Sung in German with English supertitles, the opera draws from an unfinished early nineteenth-century play by Georg Büchner and tells the tale of the brooding soldier Wozzeck, plagued by poverty and by jealousy over the infidelity of his lover, Marie.
The cast will also include Jason Collins (The Drum Major), Jason Coffey (Andres), Joshua Stewart (The Captain), Evan Boyer (The Doctor), Joseph Barron (Apprentice), Adrian Kramer (Apprentice), Diego Silva (The Fool), Karen Jesse (Marie), Tammy Coil (Margret), and Peter Momjian (Marie's son). The soldiers will be played by Allen Boxer, Brandon Cedel, Evan Hughes, Elliot Madore, Kevin Ray, Thomas Shivone, with Kirsten MacKinnon, Amanda Majeski, Marquita Raley, Elizabeth Reiter, Shir Rozzen, Sarah Shafer, and Ashley Thouret as the women.
Shuler won Tony and Olivier Awards for his performance in Oklahoma! and has also starred on Broadway in Young Frankenstein, Tarzan, and Les Miserables.
