ABOUT
The Open Air Theatre is the premier professional outdoor theatre in Great Britain. Situated in the most beautiful of all the Royal Parks, its pastoral stage setting is one of the loveliest in the world. It is famous for its summer seasons of classical theatre.
The theatre was founded in 1932 by Sydney Carroll and Robert Atkins. In 1962 David Conville took over and formed the New Shakespeare Company. The theatre is one of the largest in London with seating for 1,187. The present auditorium was built in 1975, providing a steeply raked amphitheatre with comfortable seats and excellent sightlines and focus on the stage.
An evening at the Open Air Theatre is a unique experience. As well as watching a performance in this magical setting, for an hour beforehand and during the interval audiences can enjoy supper and drinks in the spacious bar or on the picnic lawn.
