Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Starring William Hurt, Extends at Artists Repertory Theatre

Artists Repertory Theatre’s co-production with Sydney Theatre Company of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night, has extended at the Portland, Oregon-based theater, and will now run August 13-September 5.

The production is directed by Andrew Upton and was first presented in June in Sydney, Australia. As previously reported, the cast is led by Academy Award winner William Hurt as James Tyrone and also includes Robyn Nevin (Mary Cavan Tyrone), Todd Van Voris (James “Jamie” Tyrone, Jr.), and Luke Mullins (Edmund Tyrone).

The creative team includes Michael Scott Mitchell (set), Tess Schofield (costumes), Nick Schlieper (lighting), and Max Lyandvert (sound).

Hurt won the Academy Award for Kiss of the Spider Woman and was also nominated for Children of a Lesser God, Broadcast News, and A History of Violence. His theater credits include two prior appearances with Artists Rep, in The Drawer Boy and Vanya. He also previously starred in Long Day’s Journey Into Night as Edmund in a 1975 production of the play at Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
