Moises Kaufman’s 33 Variations to Open Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati Season

Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati (ETC) will open its 2009-2010 season with the regional premiere of Moises Kaufman’s 33 Variations, September 2-20. D. Lynn Meyers will direct.

The Tony-nominated play focuses on a musicologist examining Beethoven’s life and the mystery behind his creative process of obsessively composing what’s come to be known as the “Diabelli Variations.” The production will feature Amy Warner, Dale Hodges, Dennis Parlato, Drew Fracher, Alan Kendall, Morgan Grahame, and Ryan Wesley Gilreath.

Other shows in the coming season at ETC include Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone (October 7-25), Joseph McDonough and David Kisor’s new musical version of Sleeping Beauty (December 2 -January 3), Aaron Posner’s adaptation of Chaim Potok’s My Name Is Asher Lev (January 27-February 14), Steven Dietz’s Becky’s New Car (March 10-28), and the musical revue The Marvelous Wonderettes (April 21-May 9).
