39 Steps, Backwards in High Heels, Kite Runner and More Set for Cleveland Play House’s 2010-2011 Season

Cleveland Play House has announced its 2010-2011 season lineup – the final one at the historic venue on 85th and Euclid Avenue before relocating to downtown Cleveland’s Theater District in the fall of 2011.

The season will begin with the comedy The 39 Steps (September 17-October 10), to be directed by Peter Amster. Based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon, the piece is adapted by Patrick Barlow from the book by John Buchan and the Alfred Hitchcock movie of the same name.

Next up will be a stage version of Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner (October 15-November 14), adapted by Matthew Spangler, and directed by Marc Masterson. It will be followed by This Wonderful Life (November 26-December 19, a one-man stage adaptation of It’s a Wonderful Life, directed by Amster.

Conceived and developed by Lynette Barkley and Christopher McGovern, Backwards in High Heels: The Ginger Musical (January 7-30) takes a look at the life of Ginger Rogers. It features a book/original songs/arrangements by McGovern, and will be directed by Scott Schwartz. Horton Foote’s The Trip to Bountiful (February 4-27), will be directed by Timothy Douglas.

My Name is Asher Lev (March 4-27), adapted by Aaron Posner from the novel by Chaim Potok, will be directed by Seth Gordon. The season will conclude with Karen Zacarias’ Legacy of Light (April 8-May 1).
