Tory Ross and Scott Stoney will star in the world premiere of Tenderly: The Rosemary Clooney Musical, about the life of the singer and actress, playing February 21-March 4 at the Victoria Theatre in Dayton, Ohio as part of the 2011-2012 Premier Health Partners Broadway Series.

The musical is written by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, with direction by Kevin Moore. Ross will star as Clooney, with Stoney in a variety of roles. Clooney is best known for her recordings of “Come On-a My House,” and “Mambo Italiano,” as well as screen appearances in White Christmas and Red Garters, among others.

In a joint statement, Vogt and Friedman noted that Clooney’s appeal was not just her music and signature style, but her personal story and journey. “She faced many, many difficult times, some very heartbreaking, but she rose above it all and came out a winner. Her life is a lesson in overcoming obstacles and still being grateful, hopeful, and full of life,” they said.

The production features musical direction by Scot Woolley, with scenic and costum designs by Bruce Goodrich, and lighting by John Rensel.
