WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Through the integration of Butoh dance, mask theater influenced by Indian and Balinese dance, song and text, When Day Became Night tells the stories of ordinary citizens in times of war. The piece unfolds through the eyes of a journalist who becomes possessed by the Bone Girl, a ghost whose entire family and village were killed in the War. The journalist's encounter with the Bone Girl forces her to bear witness to her own complicity in the erasure of the Bone Girl's culture. She then becomes a vehicle for historical memory as the Bone Girl's story emerges through her.

When Day Became Night is an extremely relevant piece to the times in which we live, as violence continues to spread as a direct result of our government's actions.

Created/performed by Leigh Evans
Sound designed by Benjamin Robison
