WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Written by Wendy Wasserstein Directed by Madeline Sayet Wendy Wasserstein's first play centers around group of young women at Mount Holyoke College who are preparing to graduate, entering the world that awaits them in the early 1970s. Beginning with their reunion six years later, the audience will reminisce with the women about their college years, and the choices all the women face in an ever changing society. Thirty-six years after its premiere in 1977, The Mad and Merry Theatre Company revisits the story of Wendy Wasserstein's Uncommon Women and Others, with a modern cast to rediscover the hearts of these unique young women. While women have come a long way since the 1970s, these powerful women make clear that certain challenges for women still remain today. As these women confront issues of the past, their candid and often comical conversations between the close friends beg the question: How much has really changed? In "Uncommon Women and Others," Wendy Wasserstein has created characters whose journeys still resonate with women through the modern day, as we still struggle for equal rights, confronting gender roles, and proving ourselves as uncommon women.
