WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Brian Kulick directs Twelfth Night as this year's FREE Shakespeare in Central Park production, presented by the Joseph Papp Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival. The show is the Bard's timeless comedy about two shipwrecked twins that become entangled in a tale of mistaken identities, cross-dressing, and unrequited love. The cast includes Zach Braff, Kristen Johnston, Christopher Lloyd, Kathryn Meisle, Oliver Platt, Jimmy Smits, and Julia Stiles.
There are no performances on Wednesday, July 24 or Thursday, August 1
There are additional performances on Monday, July 22 and Monday, July 29
There is a special SUMMER BENEFIT on Wednesday, July 17, with proceeds benefitting Shakespeare in Central Park and The Public Theater/NYSF. The evening includes a pre-show barbecue, a performance of Twelfth Night, and a post-show reception with the cast.

Any production of Twelfth Night, or What You Will in which Malvolio is the voice of reason must be somewhat off track. That's the situation in Central Park, with Brian Kulick's go at the comedy that Shakespeare probably wrote in 1601, just before he girded himself for the likes of Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth. In Twelfth Night, Malvolio is the servant to Olivia--and a martinet who generally seems to deserve the harsh practical joke played on him by Olivia's hangers-on. But as Kulick has directed those hangers-on (Maria and the bumbling Sir Toby Belch, Sir Andrew Aguecheek and Fabian) they are so loutish--squirting wine bags around the stage as if urinating on it, for instance--that Malv[...]
