WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Sex. Drugs. Death. Slurpess. Trees Like Nails follows two brothers who find a mutilated body of a girl in the woods. Over one night, six small-town teens are covered in the trail of blood. It is a dark-comedy and coming-of-age tale about drinking an dealing in the suburbs. Trees Like Nails centers on the lives of suburban youth in America, yet the focus reaches beyond age. Snider confronts anxieties of mortality, personal choices, and sexuality in a sharp, witty voice. Brazenly revealing the danger at the heart of growing up, Trees Like Nails calls attention to the risks we all take, or don't take, when face-to-face with unexpected, perilous circumstances and emotions. Snider's play challenges the audience to look inward for answers, and opens us up to stumble upon the thrilling and damaging experiences we hide deep in the woods of our own lives. Trees Like Nails was first featured as part of The Shortened Attention Span Horror Festival in October 2007. Anthony C.E. Nelson of nytheatre.com called Trees Like Nails "the clear highlight of the evening...Deanna Weiner's direction is strong and sure, and she cleverly conveys the sensation of movement on a small stage. I look forward to seeing whatever else Snider writes." With subsequent productions at Columbia University as The Best Undergradute Play in the School of the Arts' New Voices, New Plays Festival, this play is not to be missed!
