WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Michael David Brown stars in this solo performance piece written by Owen Robertson and Brown. The Women in My Soul is a quintet of monologues featuring five women of various ages, nationalities, and races. It is not a drag act. With the simple use of a change of hat and one or two accoutrements, Brown becomes: Lornabelle, a woman on the verge, presiding over her regional Amway convention; Penelope, an Englishwoman in her golden years auditioning for a West End produciton of The Importance of Being Earnest despite the fact that she is a theatrical novice and buried her husband that morning; Elena, a former Playboy "Girls of the Soviet Union" centerfold; Josephina, a lock-jawed New England lesbian homesteading in Maine; and Loretta, an African-American cashier from Toledo who has become a national celebrity after being put on trial for speaking ebonics. Jason Southerland directs the production, which is part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival.
