WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The Volunteer, by Paulanne Simmons, is a drama about a troubled African-American high school student who is assigned compulsory community service in a senior citizens nursing home. There he meets an engaging blind woman who shows him there is a world beyond the drug-infested streets where he lives. Mary Catherine Burke directs.
