This comedy is generally credited as the very first Commedia with a script, which of course means that strictly speaking it is not a Commedia piece! Goldini responding to a request from a popular actor who played Truffaldino and also to his frustrations with actors who veered too far from the stock plots wrote this play to eliminate the random and occasionally frustrating off message improvising which he felt were ruining his shows. Luckily for modern audiences he created a masterpiece that is still very funny hundreds of years after it first premiered. Directed by Alberto Bonilla, Assistant Director Thom Brown III
