WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Following their critically acclaimed production of Home, The Actors Company Theatre presents Edward Bond's The Sea, directed by Scott Alan Evans.

When a wild storm shakes a quiet East Anglian seaside village, it sets off a series of events that changes the lives of all the residents. Set in 1907, just before WWI, The Sea is a fascinating mix of Bond's stark poetry, social insight, and high comedy - creating a play with Shakespearean sweep that is both riotously funny and touchingly poignant.

"The Sea is Edward Bond's best play so far. It is not only larger in scope, at least in human terms, but more deeply affecting and dramatically powerful than any other."
-- R.B. Marriott, The Stage and Television Today, May 1973

The cast includes: Jamie Bennett, Nora Chester, Richard Ferrone, Rachel Fowler, Delphi Harrington, Greg McFadden, and Gregory Salata, with Lauren Bloom, Ruth Eglsaer, Timothy McCracken, Christopher McCutchen, Allen Read, and Caroline Tamas.

The creative team includes: Narelle Sissons (Set design), David Toser (Costume design), Mary Louise Geiger & Lucrezia Briceno (Lighting design), Daryl Bornstein (Sound design), and Joseph Trapanese (Original Music).

Take
The Sea, the 1973 Bond play now being revived by The Actors Company Theatre (TACT). The challenge that this mercurial work poses for a director is finding the exact tone. Is The Sea a comedy? Bond thought so, but he also stirred in generous elements of romance and nostalgia. Unfortunately, director Scott Alan Evans doesn't locate the [...]
