In The Rover, Aphra Behn brings us three similarly rebellious females. Helena, bound for a nunnery, hopes that fun in the streets will lead to fun in the sheets. Florinda, betrothed to a rich man by her brother, vows to wed her true love, Belville. Angelica, a high-priced courtesan, chances the peril of romantic love. Adventures and dangers await when the women unlease themselves on the streets of Naples at carnival time for there they encounter the strappling English Cavaliers led by none other than the Rover himself, Willmore. This Dionysian force of desire, however, finds his match in these women of Naples.
