Random Arts presents the 2nd season of ?Moliere-in-the-Open-Air?, a free summer theater event, every weekend in July. This year?s production is the rarely produced one-act comedy, The Ridiculous Young Ladies. Set in the carefree and frivolous Roaring ?20?s, this comedy of mannerisms pokes fun at people who adopt pretentious ways of dressing and speaking, in the hopes of joining the ?in? crowd.
The plot centers on a pair of snubbed suitors who get their revenge on two ostentatious young girls from the provinces, who think they are too stylish to be wooed by anyone not of the highest society in Paris. To show them the folly of their ways, the suitors send in their servants in disguise. The girls fall hook, line & sinker, assuming that they are actually being entertained by two elegant gentlemen. Ultimately, the embarrassing prank is publicly revealed, to the embarrassment of all involved.
After successful engagements at the 9th Street Gardens and Central Park, the show is now presented as part of Fringe Al Fresco, the outdoor branch of the New York International Fringe Festival.
