WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

In the 15th century, the original Cycle Plays were morality plays based on biblical texts, from Creation to The Last Judgment. Confluence Theatre Company gave the titles of these original Cycle Plays to a team of writers, asking them to use them in crafting short plays around themes of sustainable living. The result is The (re)Cycle Plays, five short comedies that skewer all elements of society for their roles in creating the current ecological crisis. The plays are presented as fully-staged readings with live music and video. In addition, the performances feature a pre and post-show "eco-lounge" in The Chocolate Factory ground floor, designed and curated by Learned Evolution. The lounge includes sustainable furniture, art installations, organic and bio-dynamic drinks, downloadable information on community initiatives, and custom-made "recycled video mixes" by the UK's AV Mash-up masters, Eclectic Method. This work-in-progress event is the first stage in the creation of a large, multimedia, free, outdoor festival. All materials used in the production are effectively recycled and donated to other theater groups and Materials for the Arts, as well as global charitable organizations.
