The Pig, the Farmer, and the Artist

First Rate

by Paul L. on Sunday, Oct 4th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
The piece nails American culture on the head. Chesky has a razor sharp wit about him and skews our modern society. The music and the orchestration are first rate from this American composer as well as the direction from A. Scott Parry.

Phenomenal night of laughter and music

David Cheskys opera, The Pig, The Farmer, and The Artist is a delight. Fortunately when my "date" stood me up last night, I wandered into the Gene Frankel Theater and experienced an opera..."I had never seen before." Wholly new and modern, David Chesky shows us where the modern opera is going in the early part of the century. Playful, fun-filled, with an enthusiastic young cast and a director, A. Scott Parry, who gets the best out of the text, moves it along and enhances the parodistic and self-parodying tone of the piece. David Chesky, who wrote the book, music and lyrics is to be highly commended. And his music is to be singled out. Original, fresh, and wonderfully accommodating to his narrative. I would venture to recommend this opera to all Opera Lovers and even those that are not. Who knows: with this most contemporary vision, opera might expand its l9th century horizons and gain a whole new audience.

I really enjoyed the show. It is a wonderful piece. The whole production is well done cast, crew, orchestra, direction, well written. I found the piece to be very contemporary in subject matter and a delight. It is rare that you see such artistic choices in subject matter and overall production value. I think it is well worth seeing. You won?t be sorry.

RE:Just GO!

I had the privilege of attending the preview, and cant remember the last time I had so much fun at a show! Its insane, its fantastic, its even a bit political and controversial, but when a lead character is a pig with a 14-foot penis, what is one to expect? The direction and design is great, the singers rock, and its just a damn good time! Get your friends and GO SEE THIS!
