WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Theater for the New City presents The Open Gate, a new musical based on Nobel Prize-winning author, Isaac Bashevis Singer's epic novel, The Manor. The story centers around Calman, a Jewish merchant. At the same time as he is striving toward spiritual advancement, he is pulled in different directions by worldly ambition and sexual desire. Arthur Abrams composed the music, with book and lyrics by David Willinger. Willinger also directs, with Chris Cherney providing musical direction.
