WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

"Every once in a while a musical comes along that captures the spirit of its time flawlessly. The New Hopeville Comics, A New Rock Opera from Commander Squish Productions, is one of these shows." -offoffonline.com

Commander Squish Productions presents the Off-Broadway premiere of The New Hopeville Comics. A hit at the 2002 New York International Fringe Festival, this new folk/rock opera features an ensemble of 20 actors backed by a 6 piece rock band. The New Hopeville Comics is set in an average comic book town called Hopeville. Here, the resident superhero, Perfect Man, protects the trusting and oblivious citizens from danger. All is swell until Perfect Man's girlfriend rejects him. Losing confidence and power, Perfect Man soon meets his demise in the form of a villainous trio (Sex, Drugs and Rockenroll) who have been gleefully waiting for their opportunity to turn the unsuspecting town to chaos. Can the citizens wise-up, band together to fight villainy and put the hope back into Hopeville?

"With an original story, a powerful score and a stellar cast, this is a must see." --theateriseasy.com

The citizens of New Hopeville rely on Perfect Man (Chris Critelli) to keep them safe from criminals, including the terrible triumvirate Sex (Terren Wooten Clarke), Drugs (Carl Conway Maguire), and, of course, Rockenroll (John Bennett). But when his ladylove Molly (Sarah Hayes Donnell) breaks his heart because she herself is craving some lady-love, Perfect Man is pushed out by the hedonistic baddies and New Hopeville suffers the consequences.

The New Hopeville Comics
Fresh, creative, nothing else like it out there today. Maybe there is Hope for something other than a revivial of a revival of a movie of a remake. Loved it!

This show was featured in 2002 Fringe Festival. A new cast has brought more of a NY feel. Fun, Zanny and entertaining. The music is great.
