WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

You know him as the writer of The Giving Tree, Where the Sidewalk Ends and the country classic, A Boy Named Sue. Now, Shel does Hell. The darker side of Shel Silverstein comes to wickedly glorious life in The Devil and Billy Markham, a one hour tour de force performance by Brit Herring. The play, which first appeared as a six-part epic poem in the January 1979 edition of Playboy Magazine and subsequently as a one-act play at Lincoln Center in 1989, tells the story of Billy Markham, an unforgettable character who never met a bet he didn't take, including one involving his very soul. Billy journeys from Nashville's Music Row down into the fiery pits of hell and back again as he matches wits with God, the Devil, and everyone in between in this hilarious, ferocious, outrageous and wildly entertaining evening of theater.

Brit Herring has appeared in New York as Lucifer in Catching Hell at La MaMa Etc., Doc Porter in Crimes of the Heart, and as Bobby in Whoppers (Winner, Samuel French Short Play Festival). His film work includes Turbo Charged: The Story of the Cars, and the World War II Epic The Fallen. On television, Brit's voice can be heard on the Fox Saturday Morning Shows Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Chaotic, and Winx Club, and for the Cartoon Network shows Pokemon: Chronicles and One Piece.

There are no performances on November 24 and 25.
