The Bicycle Men make their New York premiere appearance, having performed their comedy with original songs in Los Angeles and Chicago. Dave Lewman, Joe Liss, Mark Nutter, and John Rubano are the writer/performers who compose the Bicycle Men. (Though Mark composes the songs.)
The fully-scripted show tells the story of a naïve American tourist (Lewman) whose bicycle breaks down in a deceptively quaint French village. There he encounters rude bicycle repairmen, annoying youth hostel roommates, bizarrely aware puppets, appalling cabaret performers, and a mysterious demi-god of bicycles, all played with gusto by Liss, Nutter, and Rubano. Songs include a cynical lullaby, a puzzling toe-tapper about a "church barn," and an anthem to the metaphorical power of bicycles.
