WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
David Sard's The Ballad of Eddie and Joe is a modern re-telling of the tragedy of Oedipus and Jocasta set in a working class neighborhood of a decaying American city. In Sard's play old, blind Eddie looks back on his life as an alienated youth growing up in a foster care family who stumbles into a fight with a small time gangster and inadvertently kills him. Later, when meeting the gangster's widow, he is drawn into a relationship by a powerful feeling of mutual affinity. This reinvention of the old story presents the full spectrum of emotions on the eternal dilemma of man's struggle to find love and integrity in a baffling universe. Lorca Peress directs.
